Question: Why do some people describe themselves as something that isn’t true??
Ok, I dress really 1960s mod. I’m always in tights and mini-dresses and boots and I even have a mod haircut. In return , I am treated differently for the way I dress, and am stared at by the people where I live.(I like the way I dress and I’m willing to endure this). But what I’ve come across several times, are people who describe themselves as “always dressing like they’re from the 60s” when in reality they don’t at all.
One girl described her friends as looking like they’re from the 60s, when they actually look like every other modern teen, jeans and a t-shirt!! Another girl disaproved my statement of how I was treated in the south for the way I dress, by stating she wears “vintage and 60s clothing” and wasnt treated any differently. She accused me of being paranoid and close-minded.(she went to the same town as me)

Could it also be they aren’t willing to make the sacrifices to ednure alternative lifestyles? it takes commitment and security to dress from a diff. lifestyle, or be vegan etc.
But in her photographs she did not dress 60s at all, but in plain looking clothing. If someone dressed in weird 60s clothing like she described she would be stared at and treated differently in Georgia. Hellooo, ! Unelss you’ve been there you can’t really call me a liar.

Typically it’s because they believe what they’re saying.

The fact that something is obvious to you doesn’t mean that it’s obvious to other people. People can, and frequently do, hold erroneous beliefs that they honestly consider to be accurate. There are plenty of people who don’t know that “vegan” isn’t the same as “vegetarian”, or who are mistaken about the fashion and styles of 1960′s clothing and dress.

Fact: if you look different and visit the deep south, you will be stared at and treated differently, conservative area people? She described herself as being dressed in weird clothing, when in reality she doesn’t!

First off, I think you’re a little too concerned with whether or not people look at you. Your question comes across as if you’re almost dressing differently so you will get that attention, and then you’re mad when others dress oddly and get attention. Now, I don’t know where you live, but I also live in the deep south and I see girls dressed like you all the time who don’t get a second glance from passers-by. Could it be you’re imagining all this attention?

And really, why does it matter to you what people say? Some people say one thing because they think it sounds cool, they want to be cool, but they don’t feel cool. So they say things with the hope that saying them enough will make them real. Give them a break. There’s nothing wrong with them. A lot of people do this, especially teens. You need to lighten up and stop being so judgmental.

I know you probably won’t like this answer, but it’s how I see it.
