Journeyman Furniture won the Guild of Ten award for innovation in design and making at the Cornwall Design Fair in association with Hidden Art. There was one award given at the event and it came as a fantastic suprise to Nicholas Langan when he was told that he had won it.
Nancy Pickard of the Guild of Ten said “We were very impressed with the furniture that he makes because he has pushed the boundaries of cabinetmaking with the use of digital technologies in a fresh and imaginative way”. “He is clearly a very talented young maker and we are delighted to help him in his career” enthused Jenny Yates
After a mild grilling by some of the members of the Guild Of Ten, Nicholas was informed that he had won the award because of his excellence in craftsmanship and innovation in design and making. He was awarded a £200 cash prize and invited to show work at the Guild Of Ten shop in Truro over the Christmas period with a front of house display in their window. Journeyman Furniture has a range of gift items that will be available to buy direct from the Guild Of Ten shop leading up to the winter celebrations.
Nicholas Langan of Journeyman Furniture Cornwall designs and handcrafts contemporary furniture of the highest quality to transform your living and working spaces of today and tomorrow.
Nicholas says: “Most of my furniture is made to commission and I like to make the process simple and personal to meet your particular needs. First and foremost we start with a conversation about the piece of furniture you have in mind. What size, type of wood and the functionality of the piece. Ideally, I like to meet you in the location where the furniture will be placed so I can get a sense of space and surroundings.”
Journeyman Furniture is known for its imaginative use of wood in the creation of desirable, functional furniture and sustainable forestry practice is supported by using as much native timber as possible.

Made-to-measure bedroom furniture is an integral part of any home to be proud of; there’s no point getting a new paint job on the outside, or keeping the lawn as trim and proper as possible if on the inside, you do not have decent bedroom furniture to show off to all of your friends.

Custom-made bedroom furniture is a wonderful element of any furnishing decision that you could make for your house, mainly because you can tailor make it to whatever you want it to be; so, if you have always imagined walnut coloured wallpaper over an oak bench in your room, then make that dream a reality!
When choosing your Custom-made bedroom furniture, you should think about the exact needs of your bedroom and discuss with whoever is making it as to what the best angle to take is; do you want your furniture to be a visible feature in the room, in which case you will want to set a definite theme with regards to the colour and texture of the furniture, or do you want it to fit in with your existing colour schemes and patterns?
Either way, you should discuss this with the carpenter fitting your furniture and decide on which route to take; most companies will offer a consultation or on-site visit before you decide on which furniture to get made.
This all sounds very expensive and not particularly ‘credit-crunch’ friendly; shouldn’t we be looking to save money and invest in our future, rather than furniture? Well, it has to be said that Custom-made bedroom furniture is not particularly cheap, especially if you go for a good set, which is what you will want to do, but you have to see it as an investment in your future, as it will last you a long time, provided that you pick a good company to go with.
Before you buy, it is a good idea to check out the company’s work on their website; many sites will showcase examples of their work, so it is good to cast an eye over it in order to get a good feel for the company.
The thing about choosing which company to go for, is that while everybody wants to save money, (especially at the moment, what with the recession and everything that’s going on with the financial state of the country), it is best not to cut corners if you can avoid it, seeing as a good quality set of made-to-measure bedroom furniture will last you a very long time, therefore perhaps you should spend a little extra and invest in your future.
