Feng Shui was developed in China over 3000 years ago with the connotations of a good harvest. Feng means wind and Shui means water, both of which were necessary for a fruitful harvest time. Modern interior design uses the mysterious art to redress any imbalances in our own lives. The bedroom is one of the principal rooms in the home that Feng Shui can be applied to, and the duvet cover should be focused on. How we go to sleep and wake up affects us throughout the night and day, this is why it is so vital.

The bed should be your prime focus as this is the main piece of furniture in the room and will be integral to your life balance. Do not neglect the walls, the colours and any views from your bedroom either.

In Feng Shui there are yin and yang colours. Yin colours promote relaxation and clam. Whereas looking at Yang colours can make us feel more energised, passionate and inspired.

We can be soothed and feel mentally healed when surrounded by blue. White is a yin colour which is supposed to make us more self-confident, other yin colour include purple and black. Yin colours mixed with metallic features are supposed to be able to boost your career.

Yang colours make you more pro-active by energising you and inspiring action. Orange is a yang colour attached to concentration, organisation and giving us a sense of purpose, especially when it comes to life or career ambitions. Yellow is associated with friendliness and society, helping you to get out into the world.

The duvet cover you choose can thus have an impact on you. Choosing a yang coloured duvet cover will make you feel more energised in the morning and ready to face society. On the other hand if you need help getting to sleep on a night time, blue might be the colour for you.
